Keep your details up to date

It would be very helpful if all patients kept us up to date with any changes of address or phone number.

You can ask to get text reminders of your appointment time if you we have your correct mobile phone number.

Please let us know of any such changes. Our homepage has a change of contact details section where you can send us these changes online.

World Mental Health Day

Wednesday 10th October sees the return of World Mental Health Day.

People across the globe, and here in Muirhouse, will mark the importance of mental health education, awareness, and advocate against social stigma.

Within the practice, we now have a Community Psychiatric Nurse working five days a week. We have a counsellor and trainees who your Doctor can refer you to.

We also have our two enthusiastic Link Workers who help patients explore options and activities to improve their health and wellbeing.

If you ever need help with your mental health, the whole surgery team is here for you and your loved ones - just ask.

Patient Focussed Booking

NHS Lothian is making changes to the way you are booked into Outpatient Appointments.

From later this month, when your GP refers you to Diabetes, Gynaecology or Ophthalmology you will be contacted by the hospital via a letter.

It is very important that you have your correct home address registered here at Muirhouse Medical Group.

The letter you receive will invite you to call an Appointments Office at the hospital. At this point you will be allocated an appointment.

If you miss the first letter, a reminder will be sent. Fail to respond to the reminder, and you will be removed from the waiting list.

This is a new approach to booking your Outpatient Appointment. Eventually it will be rolled out to all the hospital clinics.

Keeping Appointments

Thanks to everyone who turns up for your appointments, and the vast majority of our patients do so.

However, there are still around 11% of Nurse and 6% of GP appointments that are not used because patients have simply not turned up, and haven’t told us in time for the appointment to be used by someone else.

Over the year that is over 4,300 appointments in the surgery that are wasted!

Everyone knows that we sometimes can’t offer you appointments as easily as you or we would like and if everyone were to turn up for their appointment, or let us know at least an hour in advance when they can’t, then think how many more patients could be seen!
